Watch This Documentary: The Brain’s Way of Healing

dr_normandoidge-brainIf you are looking for inspiration watch this documentary:  The Brain’s Way of Healing

I attend a weekly mediation group that uses visualization and other meditation techniques to exercise our brain plasticity. Judy, who leads the group, has devised a unique approach applying Buddhism and research by various scientists, doctors and the work of Dr. Norman Doidge, psychiatrist and author of The Brain’s Way of Healing and The Brain That Changes Itself.

Last week, The Nature of Things with David Suzuki, featured a documentary by Dr. Norman Doidge called The Brain’s Way of Healing which I encourage you to watch. Click Here.

Seven years ago Dr. Norman Doidge introduced the idea of neuroplasticity that our brains aren’t rigidly hardwired as was once believed, but that they can change and can be rewired.   What is unique about the brain is that its circuits can, through mental experience and activity, form, unform, and reform in new ways (CBC, The Nature of Things).

Dr. Norman Doidge highlights five inspiring stories using different techniques for treating Parkinson’s, brain injury, autism and a birth defect.  Each method demonstrated extraordinary recovery for regenerating and healing the brain. From new technology to manual manipulation they were neither non-invasive nor medical treatment applications but applied through sound, light, touch, the mind or gentle electrical impulses that created patterns of energy to resynchronize the brain’s neurons.

Dr. Doidge states these are not miracles and are not for everyone since we are all unique. He goes further and explains the science behind these transformations.

I found the documentary inspiring and emotional moving watching these five people go through pain and recovery rebuilding cellular health that regenerated parts of their brains.

I hope you enjoy it!
